THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Who saw the presidential debate last week?

I have to say I was stunned by the gutter politics from both sides. I don’t know why. The cynic in me really shouldn’t have been surprised by any of this, but I was.

Before we go into my opinion of the debate, I want to say I thought the compares were really on the ball, they asked some probing and very relevant questions and were fair to both participants in the debate.

From the outset, Kamala Harris did not answer the questions she was asked. She took every opportunity to slag off former President Trump. Trump was not innocent in this either but I have to say he did at least attempt to answer the questions. Infact I will say he did answer most of them. Lets face though, Trump has a propensity to talk out his ass. Were the answers he gave even correct? I honestly can’t remember (as some of those stats he was talking about are now 8 years old). To be fair, I’ve drunk a lot of beer since then, so there are some scenes missing in my recollection of the whole thing. I will say he was correct about the stock market, there were some really cool thing that happened under his presidency and those things are recorded in financial history.

Trump went into this debate as an almost superhero-like figure after having survived that last assassination attempt. The guy was literally bulletproof. Then for no reason whatsoever, Trump buried himself with the “Illegal immigrants are eating our pets” shit. Did a couple of immigrants from Haiti eat a couple of pets? I have no bloody idea, as I don’t live in America. It was a stupid thing to say, and without firm proof it made him look like an asshole. I always respected Trump (30 years ago when his book came out) as a savvy businessman. He knows full well the idea of making people feel good when “making the deal”, yet he still managed to f–k this up in such a huge and public way. This in my opinion could be a fatal mistake for the Don.

Another turning point was when the compares mentioned Harris’ “flip flopping” on party policies. This could have been a fatal mistake for Harris if it wasn’t for Trumps’ pet eating comments stealing the limelight. The real shame of this is that Harris / Biden had no real policies and kept changing directions as public opinion demanded, but I fear this will all be overshadowed by Trumps unfortunate comments.

Had I lived in America, I would vote Trump over any of the Clintons’ or Biden administration. I would still probably vote for him over Harris, but I don’t hate her. I don’t know that much about her, and I think it was a great move by her party to put her as the presidential candidate so close to the election as she hasn’t disgraced herself in any major way and as far as I can tell no-one has any major ammo against her. Trump as much as i like the way he rolls, has a string of disgraces against his name and continues to bury himself for no reason whatsoever.

Anyway this is just some personal thoughts. I will be waiting with baited breath as the election that controls the destiny of much of the world unfolds.
